The Black
Dog
Edgartown,
Martha's Vineyard, MA |
Settled in 1642 as the domain
of wealthy nineteenth-century whaling captains, Edgartown is still a prosperous
seaport village. Yachts have replaced whaleships as the vessel of choice, but
the captains' mansions remain, and many of the town's century-old
buildings are well preserved and still in use. Among them is the traditionally
shingled building seen here, home to the Black Dog General Store in the heart
of the commercial area. |
